Another Typical Thursday

Today is my day off of work. Yes, it's great working part time...but when my days off come, they aren't really days off. Instead, they are days of mayhem; running around like a chicken without a head, doing groceries, attending to errands, sweeping under furniture, dusting, washing sheets (I usually get the clothes done during the work days), paying bills, sorting out nick nacks and tying up loose ends, eh...and all while being with my son. Basically, nothing gets done straight through...everything is constantly interrupted...interrupted because Diego needs me to get the ball from under the couch, or he's climbing the furniture again, or he's crying for me to pick him up so he can see what I'm doing. Really, it gets quite frustrating. I often wonder what the neighbors think of me when they hear me yelling at the top of my lungs from the insanity.

Today Diego and I went to do groceries. He, by the way, is becoming more and more a terror on these kinds of outings. I had gone to Whole Foods yesterday during my lunch break, and left with a paper bag full of fruits. I, being me, forgot to buy vegetables. So I had to go out today to get those, and some other items (like dental floss!! I can't live without dental floss!!). As I was putting the vegetables away in the fridge, Diego was handling each item with curiosity. "Zoo-kee-nee" he would repeat. "Bok-choy." He took a bite out of a cherry tomato thinking it was a "baby apple." He really was peering over the broccoli - he hates it. Won't touch it. He must've been fearful it would jump off the counter and into his mouth. I also bought some Calabaza, bean sprouts, shallots, mushrooms for the risotto, more garlic, and some other usual vegetables. I don't know how...as mothers always kind of shock themselves...but I managed to do a load of laundry, clean out the fridge, put away the groceries, do the dishes and clean the sinks, and entertain my son all at the same time. Seriously, I was like a mad woman bouncing from one corner of the kitchen to the next. But hey, that's my typical day off.

Finally Diego and I got to paint with the super-washable finger paints I got at Walmart. He didn't paint on the cardboard at all. He painted all over his body. I let him get dirty and gritty all the time, it doesn't bother me. In Papua New Guinea us kids were ALWAYS dirty! We would walk around with no shoes (as was the custom), and we were always climbing trees, running in the rain, rolling around in the grass, swinging on tree vines...ahhhh, I love how I grew up =)

And now that Diego is taking his nap, I get to spend some time it utter peace, blog a little, and then I'm going to fold some left over laundry while I watch a flick. I hope I can find a feel-good movie, or chick flick, or even a family movie. I love family movies. Diego and I really liked Nim's Island. I'm actually going to buy it, it reminded me of my country - the water, climbing coconut trees, cooking with fire out in the open, and running around barefoot. Plus the girl is a delight, and her father was just one of those happy-go-lucky types that always kept a smile on my face. It's one of those movies I can put on, go about my cleaning, and still enjoy the background noise.

As for tomorrow...I really doubt it'll happen, but I'm going to TRY to take Diego to the gym with me. A bunch of my coworkers go to my gym and they swear they never see me there. Anthony says "she doesn't GO to the gym, she just has a membership." Hey, it's true. But I pay $25 a YEAR for my gym. For some reason waking up at 5am became very difficult, I haven't done it since maybe 2 months ago. Shame on me, at least I work out at home.

yeah, I had it for a year already? I think, I just never had time to do anything with it, so the posts have been few and far between.
