Yesterday I went to work feeling a little under the weather. I realized upon pulling into my parking space that my coworker's car was absent from its usual spot. Sigh. She's not there. I ran in, turned on the processor, and called in my coworker's 7:30 patient who had been waiting for half an hour (since I don't get in til 8). As soon as I ran her films - CRUNCH, SQUEEK, CRUNCH!!! Grrreeeaattt! The films got stuck in the processor. It was partially because the processor hadn't warmed up enough (Andrea turns it on at 7:30), and partially because it is ancient and in need of retirement. Thankfully that patient was, well, patient. She didn't complain that I had to do her mammogram all over again, and actually was feeling quite sorry for me as she new I was on my own. I ran to the phone and called in for service. I was flooded with patients, Andrea's 7:30, the two 8:00's, two 8:30's, a 9:00 and 9:30...sigh. Boy was I tired. I was grateful that the schedulers were able to get a hold of MOST of Andrea's patients to tell them not to come in. There were a few that slipped through the cracks and I ended up doing them, along with my patients.
Ugh. There I was sick, sneezing, with a throbbing headache, constantly reaching for tissues (btw there were 4 other coworkers there sick), doing a load of patients with a broken processor, and trying my best to get caught up. Finally lunch time hits. I sit down to relax in the safety of the lunch room...then I got a phone call. It's my mom, "Hi Tess...I know you're at work...I just wanted to say that I'll be arriving between 5 and 6." My reaction: "Wait, WHAT??? You mean...TODAY???!" I hadn't heard from my mom in around 3 weeks, I had no clue they were even down here yet.
Some days you just have to laugh at what life throws at you. Yesterday could've easily been a bad day at work; who wants to be sick with a work load meant for two, with broken equipment, and just when you think you're getting a breather you get news of unexpected company? But God is good, it coulda been worse. And my house was clean with everything in place.
Hubby picked up dinner for everyone, Art slept on the couch, my mom on the air matress in Diego's room, and Diego slept with us. German and I, however, DID NOT sleep, hardly a wink. Who can sleep with a 2 year old who moves 'round like a rampaging wild animal? Seriously, I woke up with his foot resting on my forehead.
