Saturday after work I drove in he pouring rain down to Tigertail Lake Center. It was a fun drive & it was nice to be able to speed without having to think about kids in the backseat. It was a Tessa day. A day where I get to celebrate myself, and attend to my joys without having to think about anyone else or put anyone before me. It was great! When I got to Tigertail I was surprised at how small the lake was. I could actually see the end of the lake on the other side. It looked much bigger on the map. I explored and walked around for a little while, took some pics, then went into the office to pick up some flyers and ask a few questions. I asked to see their kayaks & then wandered back outside and over to the shed where the kayaks were tied up. A sense of peace and respect came over me as I looked over the blue and yellow sandy kayaks all tied up together. I decided not to kayak that day. Not there. I wanted a natural wet land, with mangroves and crabs and other marine life. West Lake. I loved that place, and haven't been there in ages.
The last time I went I was in a small group: Claudia, Paola, Devon and me. I believe we had two kayaks and one canoe...b/c Paola didn't want to be by herself. I remember Paola & I switched places and I got in the canoe with Devon...we were a little more adventurous than the other two, and explored tight waterways branching into the unknown. Ah, yes. And I remember, as goose bumps come over me, that Devon & I got stuck in a very thick tangle of mangroves and as we were trying to maneuver out of there we found ourselves uncontrollably drifting toward a huge web connecting at head level just in front of us...with a colorful, freaky-looking, shelled spider! The only thing we could do, short of stupidly jumping out of the canoe, was to thrust ourselves backwards til we were laying completely flat, with faces squinting up towards the sky, and hoping that the freakish spider wouldn't just drop down onto us. Yeah. We were never doing that again.
